      Wednesday Night Adult Introductory and Advanced classes from 7p to 9p with coaches Pat and Roger 

      6-week series dates:

      • May 3rd (Mandatory attendance for Level 1)
      • May 10
      • May 17

      • June 7

      Classes are progressive and attendance is mandatory for the Level 1 on the first night (please check your calendars NOW) May 3. Each session will last about 2 hours (plan to be on the track until 9p).

      A track bike is provided if you do not own one!

      Our Junior Advanced Classes are designed for youth 8 years of age to 17 years of age that have completed the Junior Intro Classes and have the goal of racing. Each session is made up of a series of six classes. All classes should be completed in consecutive order.

      6-week series dates:

      • May 9
      • May 16
      • May 23
      • May 30
      • Jun 6
      • Jun 13

      Over the length of the program participants can expect to (re)learn:

      • The basic skills of handling a fixed gear track bike

      • How to enter and exit the track safely

      • Velodrome etiquette

      • How to ride pace lines

      • How to ride structured workouts

      • Basic race-oriented topics.

      Rider Requirements
      • A parent must be there in person to meet the coach, see the velodrome and sign two releases before any child can ride the SD velodrome.

      • ​All children under the age of 12 must have a parent present during the entire class.

      • ​Riders must be at least 8 years of age and be able to receive and respond appropriately to instruction.

      • The coaches have a strict respect policy with how athletes speak to and treat the coaches and each other. This class is meant to be a safe environment for all of the participants.

      What to bring
      • Bicycle helmet

      • Tennis or running shoes

      • Cycling appropriate clothing

      • Gloves

      • Riding glasses

      • Water bottle

      • Light snack or energy bar

      Rider Requirements

      1. You raced TNR last season as an SDVA A or B rider

      - OR -

      2. You are a female rider of any category racing at Women's Night

      - OR -

      3. You have approval, in advance, from an SDVA Race Director. Please email racing@sdvelodrome.com in advance.


      Note:

      A specific category on a USAC, or any other racing license does not bypass these eligibility requirements.

      No self-upgrades. By permission of race directors only.
      Racers are categorized based on skill and speed.
      Race officials and the SDVA reserve the right to restrict the categories and riders at their sole discretion

      Have you wondered what riding the Velodrome is like, but haven’t been able to commit to the six-week course? Come ride the San Diego Velodrome with us!

      In this two hour class you will learn the basics you need to ride a bike safely on the velodrome. We provide the track bike, water, snacks, and two hours of velodrome basics. All you need is a pair of closed toe shoes, a bike helmet, and a good attitude! At the end of this class, you will be Safety Certified, and will be able to join the SDVA and ride the track during open track times.

      Your instructors are Whitney DeSpain and Matt HoffmannTogether, Whitney and Matt have the skills, knowledge and passion help you learn to love the velodrome the way they do.

      The San Diego Velodrome Association (SDVA) is a public benefit, membership-based 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation incorporated under the laws of the State of California for the purposes of engaging in, promoting, encouraging, and otherwise supporting bicycle track racing, both as an athletic sport as well as a recreational activity, including such related activities as, but not limited to, bicycle safety programs, bicycle swap meets, and youth bicycling programs. The SDVA is granted a use permit by the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department for the use of the velodrome facility in Balboa Park. The SDVA is responsible for administering, conducting, coordinating, and/or promoting all bicycling recreational and racing activities, including events sanctioned under the provisions of the United Cycling Federation, the United States Olympic Committee, and/or the International Cycling Union (UCI) for the San Diego Velodrome.
