    Monday Night Junior All Star classes from 7p-9p with coach Roger Ainslie.

    Advanced instruction and structured workouts for under-18 track cyclists with significant track cycling experience.

    6-week series dates:

    Each session will last about 2 hours (plan to be on the track until 9p).

      Allstars

      Are you a young cyclist with a passion for track racing and dreams of competing at the national level? The AllStar program at the San Diego Velodrome is tailored specifically for ambitious riders aged 10+ who are ready to take their racing skills to the highest level.


      What to expect
      • Structured Training: Introduction to training cycles, Sprints and VO2 max workouts.  Will also focus on pedal mechanics and bike fit to produce the maximum power, speed and endurance.

      • Race Strategies: Participants will delve into the intricacies of race strategies, learning how to tactically navigate the track and outsmart their competitors. This class is ideal for riders aiming to refine their racing approach and strategy.

      • Race Participation: Take your cycling achievements beyond the class! Advanced riders will have the opportunity to participate in races at FNR(Race fee included in Spin Club), TNR, or other prestigious events like Junior Nationals, experiencing the thrill of competitive track cycling.

      • Advanced Skill Training: Our program focuses on advanced racing techniques, including race pacing, tactical positioning, and sprint strategies. Riders will master complex maneuvers such as flying laps, team pursuits, and madison racing.

      • High-Performance Coaching: Led by recognized coaches, our training sessions are designed to push athletes to their limits. Our coaches provide personalized feedback and performance analysis to ensure continuous improvement.

      • Competitive Racing Experience: Participants will have the opportunity to race in local, regional, and national competitions. We prepare our riders for the intensity and rigor of high-stakes races through simulated race environments and strategic planning sessions.

      • Nutrition and Recovery: Proper nutrition and recovery strategies are critical for peak performance. Our program includes guidance on dietary planning, hydration, and effective recovery techniques to ensure athletes stay at their best.

      • Pathway to National Success: Our program is a steppingstone to national recognition. We provide support for riders aiming to qualify for national championships and elite development squads. Our network connects athletes with opportunities for further advancement in the sport.


      Rider Requirements
      • Riders must be able to ride a 2k in under 4mins.

      • Riders must complete a Junior Cruises safety test.

      • Riders must be able to receive and respond appropriately to instructions.

      • Riders are expected to be able to ride 2x a week at minimum.


      What to Bring
      • Bicycle helmet

      • Tennis or running shoes

      • Cycling-appropriate clothing

      • Gloves

      • Riding glasses

      • Water bottle

      • Light snack or energy bar

      • We strongly encourage riders to invest into their own equipment at this stage.

      Junior Cruisers

      Our Junior Cruisers are all about having a blast on two wheels. Through engaging activities and games, your child will discover the joy of cycling in a safe, car-free environment.
      Embark on an exciting 10 session cycling journey with our Junior Cruisers at the San Diego Velodrome! Tailored for budding riders aged 7 to 18, this program is the perfect introduction to the exhilarating world of track cycling. Inspired by a holistic approach to early childhood development, our objective is to create a foundation for your child's growth by introducing them to the world of cycling in a fun and engaging manner.


      What to Expect
      1. Safety:  We work together to make sure your child is able to safely ride on a track and create life long lessons around group riding.  Every class starts with basic riding safety and strategies to ride safely.

      2. Skill Building: From basic handling of a fixed gear track bike to mastering the art of entering and exiting the track safely, our introductory sessions focus on developing fundamental cycling skills. Velodrome etiquette, riding pace lines, and structured workouts are all part of the exciting curriculum.

      3. Making Connections: Beyond the bike, our classes encourage kids to make new friends who share a passion for cycling. Building camaraderie and a growth mindset is an essential element of the San Diego Velodrome program experience.

      • Riders must be able to receive and respond appropriately to instructions.

      • Do not worry if you do not own a track bike, through the SDV Bike Rental program one will be provided at no cost during class sessions.

      Spin Club

      Welcome to the Intermediate Program for Juniors at the San Diego Velodrome! This program is designed for young cyclists aged 10+ and who have successfully completed Junior Cruisers or have some prior track cycling experience. Our aim is to develop their skills, confidence, and passion for the sport in a supportive and challenging environment.


      What to Expect
      1. Skill Development: Riders will refine essential techniques such as cornering, drafting, and sprinting. Emphasis will be placed on improving bike handling, speed control, and race strategies.

      2. Structured Training: Our experienced coaches provide structured training sessions that balance technical drills, endurance workouts, and tactical exercises. Each session is tailored to enhance performance and build a strong foundation for future racing success.

      3. Competitive Opportunities: Juniors will have the chance to participate in local and regional competitions, gaining valuable racing experience. Our program includes mock races and time trials to prepare them for real competitive scenarios.

      4. Safety and Sportsmanship: We prioritize safety and instill a strong sense of sportsmanship. Riders will learn the importance of respect, teamwork, and fair play both on and off the track.

      5. Fitness and Conditioning: Comprehensive fitness training is integrated into the program to improve overall strength, endurance, and flexibility. Our goal is to develop well-rounded athletes who excel in all aspects of cycling.

      6. Community and Fun: Joining our program means becoming part of a vibrant cycling community. We foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where friendships are formed, and cycling is celebrated.

    The San Diego Velodrome Association (SDVA) is a public benefit, membership-based 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation incorporated under the laws of the State of California for the purposes of engaging in, promoting, encouraging, and otherwise supporting bicycle track racing, both as an athletic sport as well as a recreational activity, including such related activities as, but not limited to, bicycle safety programs, bicycle swap meets, and youth bicycling programs. The SDVA is granted a use permit by the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department for the use of the velodrome facility in Balboa Park. The SDVA is responsible for administering, conducting, coordinating, and/or promoting all bicycling recreational and racing activities, including events sanctioned under the provisions of the United Cycling Federation, the United States Olympic Committee, and/or the International Cycling Union (UCI) for the San Diego Velodrome.
