  • A member velodrome rider is an individual who has officially joined San Diego Velodrome. Velodromes are specialized cycling tracks designed for track cycling races, and membership typically comes with various benefits and privileges.

Are you a young cyclist with a passion for track racing and dreams of competing at the national level? The AllStar program at the San Diego Velodrome is tailored specifically for ambitious riders aged 10+ who are ready to take their racing skills to the highest level.


What to expect
  • Structured Training: Introduction to training cycles, Sprints and VO2 max workouts.  Will also focus on pedal mechanics and bike fit to produce the maximum power, speed and endurance.

  • Race Strategies: Participants will delve into the intricacies of race strategies, learning how to tactically navigate the track and outsmart their competitors. This class is ideal for riders aiming to refine their racing approach and strategy.

  • Race Participation: Take your cycling achievements beyond the class! Advanced riders will have the opportunity to participate in races at FNR(Race fee included in Spin Club), TNR, or other prestigious events like Junior Nationals, experiencing the thrill of competitive track cycling.

  • Advanced Skill Training: Our program focuses on advanced racing techniques, including race pacing, tactical positioning, and sprint strategies. Riders will master complex maneuvers such as flying laps, team pursuits, and madison racing.

  • High-Performance Coaching: Led by recognized coaches, our training sessions are designed to push athletes to their limits. Our coaches provide personalized feedback and performance analysis to ensure continuous improvement.

  • Competitive Racing Experience: Participants will have the opportunity to race in local, regional, and national competitions. We prepare our riders for the intensity and rigor of high-stakes races through simulated race environments and strategic planning sessions.

  • Nutrition and Recovery: Proper nutrition and recovery strategies are critical for peak performance. Our program includes guidance on dietary planning, hydration, and effective recovery techniques to ensure athletes stay at their best.

  • Pathway to National Success: Our program is a steppingstone to national recognition. We provide support for riders aiming to qualify for national championships and elite development squads. Our network connects athletes with opportunities for further advancement in the sport.


Rider Requirements
  • Riders must be able to ride a 2k in under 4mins.

  • Riders must complete a Junior Cruises safety test.

  • Riders must be able to receive and respond appropriately to instructions.

  • Riders are expected to be able to ride 2x a week at minimum.


What to Bring
  • Bicycle helmet

  • Tennis or running shoes

  • Cycling-appropriate clothing

  • Gloves

  • Riding glasses

  • Water bottle

  • Light snack or energy bar

  • We strongly encourage riders to invest into their own equipment at this stage.

The San Diego Velodrome Association (SDVA) is a public benefit, membership-based 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation incorporated under the laws of the State of California for the purposes of engaging in, promoting, encouraging, and otherwise supporting bicycle track racing, both as an athletic sport as well as a recreational activity, including such related activities as, but not limited to, bicycle safety programs, bicycle swap meets, and youth bicycling programs. The SDVA is granted a use permit by the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department for the use of the velodrome facility in Balboa Park. The SDVA is responsible for administering, conducting, coordinating, and/or promoting all bicycling recreational and racing activities, including events sanctioned under the provisions of the United Cycling Federation, the United States Olympic Committee, and/or the International Cycling Union (UCI) for the San Diego Velodrome.
